Buying vs. Leasing

Here at Etter Ford we often have a lot of customers ask us whether they should buy or lease. It's a good question, with no definitive answer. The manufactures really set the table so to speak. They control the residual values, lease and interest rates, along with rebates. What may be advantageous today may not be sometime later and it often depends on which vehicle your interested in. The manufacturer will incentivize models differently for leasing and purchasing, sometimes even different offers depending on which engine or trim the vehicle has  . There are benefits to buying but there are also plenty of advantages that can come from leasing. The final decision is ultimately based on what you're looking for and the type of driver that you are. Cost aside, it's all a matter of priorities. To help make your decision a bit easier,  and to help you plan for the future, let's take a closer look at buying vs leasing. The results may surprise you.

Advantages of Buying

We'll start by looking at the advantages of buying a Ford. When the vehicle is in your name, you can do whatever you want to it. If you want to screw a spoiler into the top of your hood or give it a custom paint job and some cool tires, no one is going to stop you. If you spend a lot of time behind the wheel, leasing may not be the best option for you. Some customers feel they drive too many miles to lease. It's true you will pay for extra miles, but whether buying or leasing , the vehicle value is depreciating accordingly.

Advantages of Leasing

While there are some restrictions involved with leasing, there are also a number of advantages that help to outweigh the parts that can seem limiting. For one, leasing allows you to constantly have the keys to some of the newest vehicles on the market. Since there is something new and coming out every year, the short lease terms-which are typically three years long-don't prohibit you from getting the latest innovations and technology. Once you return the vehicle at the end of the lease, you can just move into the latest and greatest vehicle. Another one of the benefits of leasing is that you can get lower repair costs as most are covered under warranty. You also don't have to worry about the hassle of trading the vehicle in or selling it for yourself and fluctuations in the market value. When the term ends, all you have to do is bring it back to the dealership and you're set to go.

1. Sales Tax is Less (you will pay sales tax on the lease payment not the total price of the car)
2.    If you wreck your owned vehicle it will have diminished value. While Carfax and AutoCheck have helped buyers and sellers of used vehicles determine if a vehicle has been in a wreck, if yours has, it will lower the value of it. If you leased it, it's not your problem.
3. Your credit score could improve. You are not incurring as much debit when leasing as you do when purchasing. It will improve your debt to income ratio on your credit report.
4.  Shorter term than conventional financing. If you follow the terms of the lease and dive the mileage that you intended to, you won't have negative equity at the end of the term.
5. Gap insurance is included. If it's totaled in an accident you won't owe more than it's worth.

The decision of which set of advantages suits your needs is ultimately up to you. Pre-Owned and Certified Pre-Owned

There are an increasing number of customers who continue to choose to buy Certified Pre-Owned vehicles over new ones, as the manufacturer-certified vehicles are able to provide many of the same advantages, but at a cost that is far more affordable. If you have been having a difficult time deciding whether or not you should purchase a Ford Certified Pre-Owned vehicle allow us to break down the benefits of these vehicles for you. Hopefully it will make the decision-making process a bit easier for you.

One of the biggest advantages of the vehicles is that they are all subjected to an intense screening process to ensure that they are ready for the road. Only the best of the best get the stamp of approval, which helps to ensure that no matter what model you ultimately decide on, you will get the same level of quality.

There are a few basic standards that all certified vehicles must meet. A vehicles history report is run on all of the potential candidates, and if anything beyond a minor fender bender pops up on the report, the vehicle is disqualified from the program. The year of the vehicle is also checked, and those that have been on the road for more than six years are removed from consideration.
The odometer must also have fewer than 80,000 miles on it to move to the next phase, which is a rigorous 172-point inspection process.
All Ford Certified Pre-Owned will come with:
*12-month/12,000- mile Comprehensive Limited Warranty Coverage
*7-year/100,000 - mile Powertrain Limited Warranty Coverage (Based on vehicle original warranty start date)
*24-Hour roadside assistance

Benefits of Ford Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles

After a vehicle passes the initial screening process, it is handed over to an expert team of factory-trained Ford technicians, who are trained to deal specifically with Ford vehicles, meaning they know exactly what to look for. They look over the headlights, taillight and everything in between to ensure that everything is up to speed. Anything that is out of the ordinary is fixed by the technicians and it does not leave their sights until all 172 of the points are met. When they are done with it, it is essentially a brand-new vehicle.
